La Salle University’s School of Business has named Gary A. Giamartino, Ph.D its new Dean. Giamartino has already assumed the role of Dean at La Salle.
Before coming to La Salle, Giamartino had been a professor of management and Dean of the School of Business at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). While at SIUE, Giamartino worked with faculty to make sure that students developed project management, communication, and problem solving skills in their business classes. He also led an initiative at SIUE to build lessons that provided cross-disciplinary skills and co-curricular learning opportunities. Giamartino observes that businesses are looking for well-rounded MBAs who have strong interpersonal skills. He thinks teaching students a variety of skills will help them adapt in the modern workplace.
Giamartino has also served as a team member or leader for business school accreditation visits with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), an international business school accrediting agency. Fewer than fifteen percent of business schools worldwide earn AACSB accreditation, so AACSB is an important distinction for top programs. He also mentored business schools in Europe and South America that wanted AACSB accreditation. La Salle is one of the business schools that has been accreditd by the AACSB.
Giamartino is an entrepreneurship scholar who focuses on international entrepreneurship and economic development. He earned his Ph.D. from Vanderbuilt University. He received the Council on U.S. Arab Relation’s Malone Fellowship and was a Kellogg Foundation/Partners of Americas Fellow in International Development. La Salle believes that he provides a strong international perspective that will benefit the school.
