Temple TechConnect Workshop Will Provide Advice to Entrepreneurs

Temple University has announced that it will host a second TechConnect Workshop in a few weeks. The TechConnect workshops intends to bring inventors and business students in the Temple community together to help commercialize early stage technology.  While the Fox School of Business’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI) runs a very successful angel investment group, Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures, the school observed that most technology being developed at Temple has not even reached the angel investment stage. TechConnect supports inventors in assessing market opportunities for their technologies and applying for research grants to help develop their products.

TechConnect is a joint venture by the IEI and Temple’s Office of Technology Development and Commercialization, and the program was launched in the 2012-2013 academic year. The first TechConnect took place in Spring 2013 at the Fox School of Business. It brought together twenty-five participants representing Temple’s College of Engineering, School of Medicine, College of Science and Technology, and the Fox School of Business. The workshop participants worked on exercises focusing on developing technologies designed by participants, and brought pitches back to the main group.

Temple has planned the next TechConnect workshop to be twice the size of the first. It will be held on November 12 and 14 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. The Greater Philadelphia Senior Executive Group (GPSEG) has partnered with Temple for the upcoming TechConnect workshop, showing the potential that the new program has to become more influential and have a greater impact in future years.
