Marriott Executive Chairman to Speak at Lerner

J.W. Marriott, the former chairman of the board and executive chairman for Marriott International Inc. will deliver a speech at University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics. The lecture is part of Lerner’s Chaplin Tyler Executive Leadership Lecture Series which brings business, nonprofit, government leaders to UD’s campus to share their insights and experiences with students. With nearly six decades of leadership experience, Marriott is a strong choice for UD’s leadership series

The speech is free and open to the public. It will take place on Thursday, October 24 at 2 PM. The speech will be delivered in Purnell Hall Room 115 on the University of Delaware’s Newark Campus.

Marriott held the positions of chairman of the board and executive chairman for Marriott for forty years before stepping down in March, 2012. During that time, Marriott International grew from a restaurant business to a global hotel and lodging company with approximately 325,000 employees and more than 3,800 properties in 72 countries. Marriott International developed a large portfolio of lodging companies, including JW Marriott, Residence Inn, The Ritz-Carlton, Fairfield Inn and Suites, Marriott Vacation Club, Grand Residences by Marriott, and of course, the iconic Marriott Hotels. Marriott International has also consistently made Fortune’s lists of best places to work and top companies for minority employees.

Outside of Marriott International, J.W. Marriott serves on the executive committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council, the board of trustees of General Motors and the National Geographic Society and on the board of the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation.
