A few weeks ago, five hundred and eighty business school students packed into the Livingston Recreation Center at Rutgers New Brunswick Business School to meet representatives from national companies and distribute resumes to potential employers. The students were attending Rutgers’ Supply Chain Management Meet and Greet, an annual event that connects Supply Chain Management students with top companies that need supply chain experts.
Several leading companies came to meet and recruit Rutgers students, including Target, L’Oreal, Revlon, Bayer, DuPont, Estee Lauder, JP Morgan Chase, USAA, Texas Instruments, Johnson & Johnson, BASF, Colgate-Palmolive, Northrop Grumman Corp., and Caterpillar. Over seventy companies in total sent representatives to the event.
Prior to the event, students were given the opportunity to have their resume reviewed. Students were advised to prepare an elevator speech, look up information about the corporations that they would like to “meet” at the meet and greet, bring several copies of their resume, and watch the news to learn more about current business events.
The Wall Street Journal called Supply Chain Management the “Hot New MBA”, observing that the increasing complexity of the global supply chain has driven an increase in demand for supply chain experts. Business schools have responded to the increased demand by adding and developing programs in Supply Chain Management. While many schools have just began adding MBA specializations to their offerings, Rutgers’ Supply Chain Management MBA program has existed for more than a decade.
Rutgers’ Supply Chain Management program was ranked #3 in the United States by Gartner Supply Chain Leaders, and the department claims a 99.9 percent job placement rate.
