Baltimore Mayor to Lecture at Johns Hopkins
Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will be coming to John Hopkins University’s Carey Business School this week for the latest installment its Leaders+Legends lecture series.
Leaders+Legends is an innovative forum for influential minds to gather and discuss important issues in global business. Past speakers include other prominent public officials like Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley; Gregory B. Jaczko, Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission; and Douglas Shulman, Commissioner of Internal Revenue–all exemplifying JHU’s ease of access to high-ranking government officials. The series has also attracted some big names in business, like Steve Forbes of Forbes magazine.
Since taking office in 2010, Rawlings-Blake has faced stark financial realities. After her predecessor Sheila Dixon was convicted of embezzlement, Rawlings-Blake took charge of a city facing a multi-million dollar budget deficit and an estimated shortfall of $2 billion in the next 10 years, easily enough to drive the city into bankruptcy. She has responded with sharp cuts to Parks and Recreation and Social Welfare programs, while seeking to privatize other government services. All this experience will be sure to play a part in her upcoming talk at one of DC’s leading business schools.
Interested in attending but worried about making it with your work schedule? Leaders+Legends has you covered–at least if you’re a morning person. The lecture will be held from 7:30 – 9:00am on Wednesday, December 5 on the fourth floor of Cook Commons at 100 International Drive, Baltimore MD 21202. Seating is limited and online registration is required, with a $35 price tag. Please note: business attire is required.
