McDonough Student and Faculty Member Win Awards

When 80 leaders from the utmost levels of business, finance, diplomacy and government, media, and the arts congregate in one room to offer creative and “non-obvious” solutions to various challenges facing the world, big ideas are bound to pop up.

Udhedhe Olakpe, an MBA student at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, won this selective group’s “Non-Obvious” award for her submission, “Container City.”

Olakpe explored what happens to an old shipping container when it is no longer suitable for shipping. Her idea is to use shipping containers to create modular homes in emerging markets and lower income neighborhoods.

In other McDonough awards news, Douglas McCabe, professor of management, was honored with the Best Professor Award by The 25 District of Columbia Public School (DCPS) principals who graduated from Georgetown McDonough’s Executive Master’s in Leadership Program. Professor McCabe taught the principals Negotiating in Complex Environments and supervised their Moral Leadership Projects.

Considered by the media to be an expert in his field, Dr. McCabe has appeared more than 200 times on international, national, and local television and radio as the networks have sought his views on critical issues in employee relations. In addition to this latest honor, Dr. McCabe has won the Joseph F. LeMoine Award for Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Excellence twice.
