Rutgers EPI Business Owner Sells Jam to the Super Bowl Host Committee
Kim Osterhoudt, the founder and CEO of Jams by Kim and a 2012 alumnae of the Entrepreneurship Pioneers Initiative (EPI) at the Rutgers Business School Newark/New Brunswick, was approached by the Super Bowl Host Committee. After requesting samples of her jam, the Host Committee ordered her Blueberry and Lemon jam to place in gift bags for the NFL owners.
The Super Bowl Host Committee request is not the first honor that Osterhoudt and Jams by Kim have received. In 2010, Osterhoudt won the National Association of Women Business Owners, Central Jersey Chapter (NAWBO-CJ) business plan competition, Supporting Emerging Entrepreneur’s Development (SEED). Osterhoudt currently serves as an officer of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
The Entrepreneurship Pioneers Initiative is a program offered by Rutgers Business School’s Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development (CUEED). EPI is a nine-month program that offers peer coaching, monthly classes, one-on-one counseling, financial guidance, networking, and intensive training for first-generation entrepreneurs. CUEED aims to develop the talents of urban entrepreneurs to help bring renewed economic growth and vitality to urban areas. The center integrates the government and non-profit sectors, private capital, and academia to provide citywide resources in Newark.
Jams by Kim is an artisanal food company that sells jams, jellies, and preserves at small specialty food shops, local farmers markets, and online at the Jams by Kim website. The products are all natural. Jams by Kim will celebrate its fifth anniversary in September 2014.
