Intensive Business and Society Course Debuts at GWSB

George Washington University School of Business MBAs investigated how business operates in political, social and economic environments through an interdisciplinary, four-day intensive course last month. This course is the first of its kind offered GWSB.

Instructed and led by D. Jeffrey Lenn, professor of strategic management and public policy, “Business and Society” was specially and specfically designed to give MBA students a more comprehensive perspective on business by placing it in a societal context.Lenn has served as a consultant to corporations, trade associations, non-profit organizations, and governmental agencies. He has extensive experience in management and executive development programs, both domestic and international. He also has been a featured speaker at academic, professional, and business conferences in Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Middle East. His writing includes a number of case studies about management and corporations.

The intensive course offered an introduction to the public policy process from various perspectives, ranging from governmental agencies, corporations, trade associations and nonprofit organizations. It also emphasized the development and implementation of corporate strategies for successful participation in that process.

“Business and Society” featured speakers, interactive videos and off-site visits designed to bring students into closer contact with major national and international organizations headquartered in the GWSB’s location in Washington, DC.
