REGISTER: Lerner Hosts Symposium on Corporate Governance

The John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business has announced that it will host a symposium on corporate governance. The 2014 Corporate Governance Symposium will discuss issues of governance that are important for institutional investors. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 19, at 8:30 AM in 125 Clayton Hall on the University of Delaware’s Newark Campus.

The event will feature a panel of institutional investors. Panelists include Kayla J. Gillan, the leader of the PwC Investor Resource Institute; Stephen L. Brown, the senior director of Corporate Governance for TIAA-CREF; Jack B. Jacobs, a justice on the Supreme Court of Delaware; Robert McCormic, the chief policy officer at Glass Lewis and Co.; Patrick S. McGurn, a special counsel for Institutional Shareholder Services Inc.; Glenn Booraem, a principal of the Vanguard Group and controler of Vanguard Funds; and Carol J. Ward, the vice president and corporate secretary of Mondelez International, Inc. The panel will be moderated by Charles M. Elson, the Edgar S. Woolard, Jr., Chair of Corporate Governance at Lerner and the director of the Weinberg Center.

The symposium will also include four academic paper presentations. The papers are “Staggered Boards and Firm Value, Revisited,” “Philanthropy, Corporate Culture and Misconduct,” “Management Influence on Investors: Evidence from Shareholder Votes on the Frequency of Say on Pay,” and “Shareholder Activism as a Corrective Mechanism in Corporate Governance.” The abstracts of the papers are available at the Weinberg Center website.
