Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Scholar Reflects on Experience

In a recent interview, Rutgers Business School Newark/New Brunswick MBA student Rema Bitar reflected on her experience as a Pharmaceutical Industry Scholar at Rutgers.

Pharmaceutical Industry Scholars are selected by Rutgers Business School and the Pharmaceutical Management program’s board of advisers. Industry Scholars at Rutgers receive a full scholarship covering tuition and fees for in-state and out-of-state students, and the opportunity to attend on-site programs and seminars at pharmaceutical facilities. Students also receive opportunities for employment through the scholarship program, including an internship opportunity at a sponsor company, and “enhanced opportunities” for employment after graduation.

Bitar spent nearly five years at Merck working as a scientist in drug discovery before she entered Rutgers’ Pharmaceutical Management Program. After graduation, she will work for Bayer HealthCare.

“One of the hardest things to do in life is to take a chance on yourself and when I left my previous position as a scientist to come back to school I didn’t know what the end result was going to be,” Bitar said. “The pharmaceutical industry scholarship opened up doors and presented me with opportunities that I never dreamed possible.”

Rutgers’ interview with Bitar is available here.

To be considered for the Industry Scholars Program, applicants must first gain admission to Rutgers’ Traditional Full Time MBA program. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or above and a relatively high GMAT score. Applicants must also demonstrate leadership potential, and show three or more years of business experience, particularly in healthcare, science, or pharmaceuticals.
