17 Years of Executive-in-Residence Program at Tobin

The Peter J. Tobin College of Business celebrated its Seventeenth Annual Executive-in-Residence Program Convocation this year. The Executive-in-Residence Program (EIRP) is a unique feature of the school that allows students to serve as real-world business consultants to corporations and non-profit firms. A variety of organizations utilize EIRP for fresh perspectives on business problems, new ideas for product development or solutions to other business challenges.“I was fortunate enough to participate in EIRP during both my undergraduate and graduate time at St. John’s University, and I can say with certainty that the EIRP program has truly been one of my best experiences. The opportunity to interact with executives and work on real-world business projects, as well as the motivation from Dr. Boone to always produce high quality presentations, has been invaluable in preparing me to enter the workforce. I believe that participating in the program gives me a great advantage because I have made connections, learned how to solve real management problems and learned to work very effectively in a team,” said graduate student and this year’s National Grid Award recipient Nicole Horan.

“I will be forever grateful to St. John’s for allowing me this opportunity and hope to use the skills I’ve learned to represent the University well in all of my future career efforts,”

Dr. Larry Boone, associate professor of management and director of EIRP since 2006, emphasizes the importance of this program for students who want to pursue a successful career in business.

“Every semester I see the EIRP students immersed in challenging strategy projects with top executives from New York’s finest business and not-for-profit organizations. Small teams of students engage their executive facilitators in face-to-face discussions at their corporate conference tables and on campus. The personal feedback and guidance the students receive from the executives cannot be duplicated in the classroom. This is truly experiential learning at its finest,” Dr. Boone said.

Past corporate partners of the Executive-in-Residence Program include Broadridge, Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI), GlassWing Solutions, Goldman Sachs, Grant Thornton, Leerink Partners LLP, Literacy Nassau, National Grid, Pfizer, Ridgewood Savings Bank, Standard & Poor’s, STV, TBWA and WeiserMazars LLP.
