Roger W. Ferguson, Jr. To Speak at McDonough Graduate Commencement Ceremony
Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., will speak at the graduate commencements for Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. He will address graduates of the MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Master’s in Leadership programs on Friday, May 16, at 12:30pm. Ferguson is president and chief executive officer of TIAA-CREF, the leading provider of retirement services in the academic, research, medical, and cultural fields and a Fortune 100 financial services organization.
Ferguson started his career as an attorney at the New York City office of Davis Polk & Wardwell. Before joining TIAA-CREF in 2008, he previously worked as head of financial services for Swiss Re, chairman of Swiss Re America Holding Corporation, and a member of the company’s executive committee. From 1984 to 1997, he was an associate and partner at McKinsey & Company.
Ferguson is also extremely active, sitting on a variety of boards:
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and a member of the academy’s Commission on the Humanities and Social Sciences; co-chair of the Committee on Economic Development; board member of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. and Audax Health, Brevan Howard Asset Management LLP; the American Council of Life Insurers; the Institute for Advanced Study; and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He serves as vice chair of the Business-Higher Education Forum and was co-chair of the National Academy of Sciences’ Committee on the Long-Run Macro-Economic Effects of the Aging U.S. Population. Ferguson is chairman of the Economic Club of New York and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Group of Thirty. He served on President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness as well as its predecessor, the Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
Well that was a mouthful. Overall, Ferguson has a lot of experience and should have some pretty insightful things to say as McDonough MBAs receive their diplomas and take their careers to the next level.
The ceremony will take place on the Healy Lawn with the rain location being the McDonough Arena. Link to the live webcasts of the events from http://www.georgetown.edu/hoyas2014/speakers.html.
