The Startup Hoyas Summer Launch Program at the McDonough School of Business will host 17 entrepreneurial ventures this summer in its startup incubator program. This special summer program is designed specifically for current students and recent graduates who want to launch a new venture.
The program’s various benefits include: dedicated support from Georgetown faculty, mentors, and other experienced entrepreneurs; work space in the business school’s Rafik B. Hariri Building on the Georgetown campus; introductions to local investors and entrepreneurs, including access to the 1776 startup incubator; invitations to exclusive networking events; and the opportunity to present their ideas to the DC entrepreneurial community.
MBA-led companies participating in this summer’s program include:
CropGenics is based on a patented technology fertilizer and additive that modulates RACK1A gene to confer drought resistance and maintain photosynthesis in plants. It is led by Sivanesan Dakshanamurthy (MBA ’16).
DrumPulse Entertainment is an African entertainment and lifestyle brand seeking to make high quality African entertainment easily accessible to the African diaspora and to bring the best of African culture to the United States. It is led by Kweku Amoako (MBA ’14).
Ed-Strong is building an online platform for the management of graduate and undergraduate experiential learning courses. It is led by Madeline Pongor (MBA/Master of Public Policy ’15).
Flaminke is a platform where photography lovers and enthusiasts can subscribe to a lens rental service similar to the Netflix DVD model. It is led by Noel Tordesillas (MBA ’14) and Vivienne Tordesillas.
Hope & Company is a fashion and lifestyle for-profit social enterprise that covers the cost of a girl’s education for one week with each item sold. It is led by Genevieve Ryan (JD/MBA ’15).
JmpStart is a platform that helps build connections in the entrepreneurial sphere with faster search and better results. It is led by Mayssa Chehab (MBA ’15).
Visiosafe offers smart sensors that help cameras become powerful analytical tools, through which venue operators can better understand the behavioral pattern of their visitors. It is led by Yashi Rahmatollahi (MBA ’14) and Adam Fischman (MBA ’14).
The program is sponsored by the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Initiative. The initiative aims to inspire Georgetown students to be entrepreneurial, teach them the entrepreneurial lessons learned by others before them, connect them to useful resources and help them pursue their own unique entrepreneurial interests. The initiative manages an array of courses and extracurricular programs to serve the Georgetown University entrepreneurial community, both within and outside of the McDonough School of Business, and fosters strong connections to the vibrant Washington, D.C., entrepreneurial community and the Georgetown Alumni Association.
