The Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, Villanova University President, announced the appointment of Thomas F. Monahan, the John M. Cooney Endowed Professor of Accountancy & Information Systems as Dean Emeritus of the Villanova School of Business.
The position has been bestowed upon Dr. Monahan in recognition of his numerous accomplishments as dean of Villanova School of Business for seven years, as well and his more than 10 years of service to the school after.
Among his numerous accomplishments during his tenure as dean from 1996 to 2003, Monahan initiated two master’s programs, adopted a new strategic plan built around the concepts of globalization, technology, ethics and experiential learning and oversaw major renovations and facility improvements to Bartley Hall. Dr. Monahan continues to serve as faculty director for the Executive MBA program.
“For more than 30 years, students have known Dr. Monahan to be one of the most dynamic and engaged members of the VSB faculty,” said Rev. Donohue. “His leadership as dean, as a faculty member, as faculty director of the EMBA program and as a member of the Villanova community have been extraordinary.”
Dr. Monahan has won teaching awards at both LaSalle University and Villanova and is a recipient of the IMS Distinguished Faculty Member award. His research interests include capital budgeting, finance and strategy in decision making, evaluation and reward systems and models of accounting education.
“This is the first time in the history of the University that this honor has been given,” said Patrick G. Maggitti, the Helen and William O’Toole Dean of VSB. “It is a notable and very well-deserved recognition for Dr. Monahan.”
“I am honored to be named Dean Emeritus of the Villanova Business School; however, this honor can be attributed to the hard work and commitment of our administration, faculty and staff during my tenure as dean,” said Dr. Monahan.
