Baruch Ranked Among Top Schools for Older Students

Baruch College has been ranked no. 33 among the “Top Schools for Older Students” by BestColleges.com. It has been listed with a 26 percent application rate of Undergraduate Students Ages 25 and Older, a 25 percent admission rate and a 63 percent graduation rate.

Baruch College was also recognized for its School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS), which attracts many nontraditional students.

BestColleges.com defines “nontraditional students” as adults, 25 and older, who took time away from academia before beginning or continuing an undergraduate degree. There are a number of reasons why someone would postpone their postsecondary education, each unique to the individual. Some may have gone into the military with the hope of earning their college tuition.

BestColleges.com bases its rankings on information compiled using the latest information from the IPEDS and College Navigator databases, both of which are reputable sources maintained by the National Center for Education Statistics. The most recent set of data is for the 2011-2012 school year, though some individual data points reflect the 2012-2013 school year.

BestColleges.com created its rankings for their list of top schools for older students, by first compiling a list of all schools with a nontraditional student body of 25 percent or higher. The list was narrowed to only those schools that provide a high quality education, quantitatively speaking. In order to trim the list to 50 schools, BestColleges.com then looked at institutions that offered a range of degree programs at the baccalaureate level or higher. Schools that do not report their student demographics were not considered for the list.
