Ageno Prof Named Top 100 By Financial Times

financial times

Edward S. Ageno School of Business Distinguished Adjunct Professor Elissa Buie has been named to the Financial Times Top 100 Women Financial Advisers list for 2014. Buie teaches the capstone Cases in Financial Planning course at the Ageno School of Business.

The Financial Times bases its rankings off of two elements. The first is the collection of names of prospective advisors by FT’s sister company, Ignites Distribution Research. The company contacts brokerage firms, registered investment advisors and other wealth management firms for names of those who fit the criteria. In order to be considered for the rankings, an advisor must have at least 10 years of experience and manage more than $200 million.

The second element is a final analysis. More than 400 qualifying advisors were asked to complete a detailed questionnaire for this year’s rankings. The data from the questionnaire, adviser assets under management, asset growth, years of experience, industry certification (CFP, CPA, etc.), compliance record, and online accessibility are all considered in for the final rankings.

Buie has been practicing financial planning for almost 30 years. She is currently Chair of the Foundation for Financial Planning’s Board of Trustees. She has been published in the Journal of Financial Planning and sits on the Cornerstone Advisory Board of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. She is also a Dean for FPA’s Residency Program.

She has been an adjunct professor at the Agneo School of Business since 2010. Buie earned an MBA from The University of Maryland and a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia. She has been practicing financial planning since 1983.
