Marshall Holds Annual Diversity Conference

USC Marshall School of Business held its second annual Diversity Conference on Oct. 24, 2014. The event was held in the Davidson Conference Center. More than 150 students, alumni and prospective students attended the event.

The Black Graduate Business Leaders (BGBL) and the Latino Management Business Association (LMBA) jointly hosted the event. The conference was created to bring together a number of industry leaders around the theme of the game-changing business impact of diversity.

Those who participated in the event attended industry breakout panels covering healthcare, consumer packaged goods and media and entertainment. Leadership panels on topics such as social entrepreneurship, personal branding and closing the deal were also offered for attendants.

Also during the conference, two Marshall alumni were awarded two different Alumni of the Year awards. Luis Orozco MBA ’09, an artist’s manager and entrepreneur, received the first annual LMBA Alumni of the Year award for his widespread efforts in publishing to spread bilingualism and multiculturalism. Bill West MBA ’79, president of WestReyna LLC, a consulting practice serving small business, was awarded the first annual BGBL Alumni of the Year Award for his tireless volunteer work and financial support of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management.

The conference ended with an award ceremony and networking opportunities as alumni speakers mingled with students, prospective students and Marshall faculty and staff.

James G. Ellis, dean of USC Marshall, said he was extremely impressed with the dedication and focus the conference reflected. “We are proud of what we do here, but we are even prouder of what all of you do. Thank you for being here. Fight on!”
