Socially-minded Entrepreneurs Selected at Cambridge Judge School Event

CityStarters

A new cohort of 14 ventures with social impact was announced by Social Incubator East, a Cambridge-based organisation, which selected the ventures at a three-day event at Cambridge Judge Business School.

The ventures – which come from a range of fields including genomics, finance and community arts – will receive 12 months of business support, office space and loan finance as they seek to scale up. This support includes training from Cambridge Judge experts aimed at creating viable business plans and securing early customers.

Among the ventures selected are:

– AGRIinsight, an online platform that helps sub-Saharan African agribusinesses promote their activities, locate, develop and manage supply chain networks
– Cambridgene, which aims to improve people’s lives through interpretation of the genomic code
– GeneAdviser, an online genetic testing marketplace which puts rare disease patients in touch with clinical labs that can perform the sequencing and diagnostics
– Open JamJar, which facilitates stable tenancies for those private renters who receive local housing allowance and generates the opportunity for increased financial inclusion
– Thrive Spring, a social networking site for people with an interest in community resilience, emergency preparedness and self-sustainability

This is the second cohort selected by Social Incubator East, which held a Social Venture Weekend at Cambridge Judge 8-10 October that attracted 60 social entrepreneurs. The next Social Venture Weekend at Cambridge Judge will be held 27 February-1 March 2015. Click here to learn more and find a full list of participant ventures.
