Wharton Holds Annual Energy Conference

The Wharton School will be holding this year’s annual Wharton Energy Conference Nov. 14, 2014. This year’s conference, titled “Energy Future: Bridging the Gap”, will be at the Union League of Philadelphia.

The conference aims to promote dialogue on the circumstances shaping the current global energy landscape and how the diverse sectors of the industry can be harnessed jointly to create positive change in several arenas. This collaboration of academics and students from diverse backgrounds with professionals working in renewables, energy finance, chemicals and oil and gas was created to facilitate a dialogue between sectors that are can often be complicated.

This year’s conference will include several panel discussions across three tracks. The Power and Renewables track will explore the future of America’s distribution generation, new methods for financing renewable projects, energy grid, and energy storage. The Natural Resources track will examine conventional and unconventional oil and gas exploration and production, energy in Africa and energy entrepreneurship. The last track, the Policy and Finance track will cover corporate sustainability, the future of energy policy and public and private investing in the energy space.

The event will begin on Nov. 14 at 8 a.m. with an opening keynote address from Stephen Trauber, Vice Chairman and Global Head of Energy
 at Citigroup. Other keynote speakers are be Gina McCarthy, Administrator
 at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Greg A. Lanham, Chief Executive Officer at 
FTS International and Janet Clark, Former Chief Financial Officer
 at Marathon Oil.

Depending on which track or tracks attendants choose to follow, different panels are available during the morning and afternoon. There will be a networking lunch hour in the afternoon and cocktail hour following the end of the conference. An alumni dinner will also be held Nov. 13 for all current Wharton students and alumni.

The cost of the conference for any student is $50. The cost for non-student professionals is $80. Registration for the event can be completed online.
