Haub Hosts Family Business Event

The Haub School of Business held a family business event. The event was co-hosted by Haub and the Initiative for Family Business and Entrepreneurship. The event was titled, Succession: The keys to a successful leadership transition. The program took place on the Saint Joseph’s University campus on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in Doyle Banquet Hall at the Campion Student Center.

The Initiative for Family Business and Entrepreneurship aims to build a community of family businesses and entrepreneurs who are committed to continuous improvement via education, benchmarking and the implementation of new strategies for long-term economic growth; create a world-class academic experience for undergraduate students; and develop a research program that continually renews our understanding of the needs for entrepreneurial and family enterprising success.

Membership for the Initiative for Family Business and Entrepreneurship is offered at a cost to family enterprises. Benefits of membership include world class education and benchmarking seminars, creation of a customized ownership strategic plan, entrepreneurial skill building for successor generation and non-family managers, affinity groups, networking, and customized solutions via our consulting company.

The family business event focused on the problems that many family business owners face, ownership and management transitions. Many senior generation leaders hold on to ownership and management too long, destroying trust and motivation in the successor team. Others transition too early, risking the business’ future with a successor who is not ready for the responsibility of leadership.  During the event, the expert panel of family business leaders from some of the most successful firms in the Philadelphia region discussed transition strategies with the attendants.

The expert panel for the event included Christian Haub, Co-Chief Executive Officer of the Tengelmann Group, Bob Healey ‘51, Co-Founder of the Viking Yacht Company, and Joe Ferrier, Vice President and Treasurer of the Philadelphia Suburban Development Corporation (PSDC).
