Ronnie Mervis Speaks at Kogod As Part of CEO Leadership Speaker Series
On January 21, Ronnie Mervis, Co-Founder and CEO of Mervis Diamond Importers, spoke at The Kogod School of Business as part of the Alan Meltzer CEO Leadership Speaker Series, speaking on “Reflections on the Diamond World: Reality or Perception?” The talk also kicked off Kogod’s Diamond Anniversary, a celebration of Kellogg’s 60 years educating future business leaders.
The diamond is a cultural sign of love, marriage and stability. Diamond clients spend their money on what may be one of the most meaningful purchases of their lives. Mervis Diamond Importers helps aid in those purchases every day.
“The diamond is the ultimate symbol of love. Love is the reason for the diamond industry,” Mervis said.
Mervis Diamond Importers has locations in Washington D.C. and Rockville, Maryland, locations close to Kogod’s campus.
“We’re in a happy industry. The only incurables we deal with is the incurable romantic,” Mervis said.
Mervis is also an advocate of radio advertising, a relatively antiquated medium. He credits the power of telling his own memorable stories as the best form of advertising, and writes, records and produces his own radio ads that are known around the Washington D.C. area.
Mervis closed his speech with advice to young entrepreneurs, encouraging them to find their passion, no matter the job description.
“Make sure that whatever you do, you love it,” he said. “Make sure that you are the diamond that sparkles the most.”
