VSB Partners with Archdiocese of New York

The Center for Church Management and Business Ethics at the Villanova School of Business has partnered with the Archdiocese of New York to create a new program for the parishes of the Archdiocese as part of the Master of Science in Church Management program. Under this new partnership, the ADNY will enroll up to 50 parishioners to the Master of Science in Church Management program annually for two years.

The partnership comes from the Archdiocese of New York recently launched “All Things New” program. The program was created to ensure the parishes will be managed by the most highly qualified business managers. To do this, parishes may consolidate, and the clergy will take on greater pastoral and administrative responsibilities. Some of these administrative responsibilities will need to be delegated to qualified parish business managers.

An introductory orientation for the program will be held in New York in the spring of 2015. The rest of the MSCM degree courses are offered on-line which makes it convenient for busy church workers wherever they reside to earn their degree. The ADNY participants will receive the same education and be taught by the same faculty members as the Villanova MSCM students. All courses have been specially developed to meet the needs of church managers.  Students will take two courses each semester and graduate in two years.

Charles Zech, PhD, faculty director for the CCMBE and director of the MSCM program said that the Villanova School of Business is happy to welcome members of the ADNY to the program. “We are dedicated to providing the best possible church management education and to help parishioners lead and serve the Church effectively,” said Zech. “This partnership means not only that we will have a steady stream of students, but also that the Church will have a greater number of trained business professionals assisting their pastors.”
