AACSB President and Goizueta Dean Discuss the Future of Education

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)– the group responsible for the accreditation of MBA programs– recently released a video interview between Emory University’s Goizueta Business School Dean Erika James and President and CEO of the AACSB John Fernandes.

In the interview Fernandes and James discuss the effectiveness of different strategies for leading members of an organization in during a crisis. One of the subjects touched on in the interview is threat to brick and mortar educational programs from online education. James acknowledges the crisis, but thinks new action is necessary.

“The industry of higher education is not going to disappear tomorrow so there is not a sudden crisis,” she told outgoing AACSB chief John Fernandes. “I do believe there are a number of smoldering issues that have been festering for a period of time. We’ve reached the point where we need to be aggressive in decision-making and action-taking in solving those issues… As a result of that, I think we will see a radical change of how education is delivered in this country.”

Before James became Dean of Goizueta she served a Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education at the Darden Graduate School of Business in Virginia. While at Darden she introduced the Women’s Leadership Program, which is currently the ranked third in the world among open enrollment programs. She received her Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from University of Michigan.
