Academic Society Names Bauer Professor as New President
The academic society The Decision Science Institute recently named a new president, Funda Sahin, an associate professor in the Department of Decision & Information Sciences (DISC) at University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business. Sahin will assume the role beginning in April 2016.
Sahin is the fifth woman elected president of the organization since its creation in 1969. She has worked with the DSI in many different roles since her early doctoral student days. In her time with the organization she has served as annual meeting program chair, secretary and vice president at-large.
“My vision for DSI focuses on enhancing the brand globally,” Sahin said. “This starts with the better understanding of DSI’s core values and capitalizing on them.”
DSI is an organization dedicated to being a platform for communication within the fields of supply chain management, business analytics and management information systems. They do this through their the Decisions Sciences Journal and the Decisions Sciences Journal of Innovative Education.
“We want to attract thought leaders in the multidisciplinary areas of DSI — MIS, business analytics and supply chain management — but we’re also seeking those from finance and accounting,” Sahin said. “As we focus on creating knowledge in existing and new sectors, I want to provide leadership in our organization that elevates the society.”
