The Gabelli School of Business will start a new book club for students in the fall. This new club will give students the opportunity to come together to read the published research and writings of Fordham University professors. Students in the club will be given books free of charge, along with a study guide from the author.
The program was created by Greer Jason-DiBartolo, assistant dean for freshmen at the Gabelli School and Lisa Green, the manager of the undergraduate integrated core curriculum. The club will consist of about 10 to 12 students. Jason-DiBartolo said that if there is a big interest in the club, they will see if the professors could expand to holding two discussions so that the group remains small enough to keep students engaged.
The reading guide will help the student club members to think about questions about the readings or point out certain highlights of the books. After students complete the reading, the group comes together every few weeks to hold its own discussion about the research and discuss the reading guide. Students in the group will read and study one book each semester.
The students will meet with the author of the book over lunch or dinner. The first book that the students will read in the club will be marketing professor, Lerzan Aksoy’s The Wallet Allocation Rule. The book is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller. Jason-DiBartolo said that the club will serve a number of purposes. “It will gather undergraduate and graduate students together, celebrate the achievements of Fordham’s faculty and expose students to some of the high-level research being conducted by the faculty, she said.”
