The Global Venture Labs Investment Competition is set to be held May 7-9 at University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. The event, which McCombs refers to as the “Super Bowl of Investment Competitions,” brings together teams from around the world to compete for cash and prizes.
In order to enter the competition, teams must win an affiliated competition or apply through an open berth. So, you won’t be in this years competition, but it might be a good chance to size up next years contestants. The prizes on the line are sizable:
- Total cash prizes of $78,000
- An invitation to close the NASDAQ OMX Stock Market
- The Austin Technology Incubator Launch Package valued at $25,000
- Consulting time with the Director and Assistant Director of Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs
The event is spaced out over three days beginning on May 7. Many of the events are open to the public. Only 5 events all weekend require a badge for entrance. The competition will take place at the AT&T Executive and Conference Center.
The website for the event lists the success stories for companies that have come through the competition.
“In the last ten years, new ventures nurtured in the entrepreneurial environment at the McCombs School of Business have raised over $167 million,” The website says. “That figure includes eighteen companies that have raised a million-plus in funding and 14 that have had successful exits. This is an amazing record of success, especially in an economic climate that has made finding investors for new ventures particularly difficult.
