Bauer Students Get A “True Detective” for Commencement Speaker
It’s that time of year again. As spring finally rolls in, universities across the country prepare for the biggest event of the year: graduation. Along with all the pomp and procession, students at University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business will be treated to a special keynote speaker at this year’s university commencement.
Matthew McConaughey, the Texas native actor, will address students and families at the graduation ceremony. The commencement begins Friday, May 15 at 5 pm with a Moores School of Music concert. The procession of graduates and faculty will begin at 6 pm followed by the ceremony at 7pm. The ceremony will include remarks from University President Renu Khator as well as McConaughey.
McConaughey has appeared in more than 40 feature films that have collectively grossed over $1 Billion. This past year has been an active one for McConaughey. He received a Critics Choice and Television Critics Association Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, as well as an Emmy Nomination for his role in the HBO series “True Detective,” He has also earned numerous awards for playing Ron Woodruff in the critically acclaimed Dallas Buyers Club. In 2008 McConaughey established the j.k. livin Foundation which promotes active livestyles and healthy choices for high school students.
Students at Bauer will also have a College Convocation, a smaller, more personal graduation ceremony where students will be called to walk across stage and receive their accolades. The convocation will begin at 2 pm in Hofheinz Pavilion.
