Graduates Celebrate

Students at University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business are preparing for the end of the semester and the end of the year. For many of those students, that also means getting ready for graduation.

On Friday, May 22 from 6-8 pm in Gregory Gymnasium, McCombs students belonging to the Texas MBA class of 2015 will have their convocation ceremony. The university-wide commencement is the following day, May 23 at 8 pm at the Tower.

Amidst the regalia and processions, graduates at McCombs convocation will have the opportunity to hear a speech from Ray Nixon Jr., the Executive Director and a Portfolio Manager at Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney & Strauss, LLC. BHMS is an approximately hundred billion dollar firm founded in 1979 which is now one of the largest value-oriented investment managers of institutional assets in the United States. Nixon joined BHMS in 1994. Prior to that he also served as a research analyst for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas as well as a member of the Investment Policy Committee and the lead institutional stockbroker for the southwest region at Smith Barney, Inc. Nixon received his BA and an MBA from the University of Texas.

Students who attend the university-wide ceremony will also be treated to speaker Darren Walker, President of the philanthropic organization Ford Foundation. In his role at the second largest organization of its type, Walker manages more than $500 million in grants, $12 billion in assets and offices in the US, Africa, Central America, Asia, South America and the Middle East.
