Johnson & Johnson CEO To Address Grads at Carey Business School Commencement

Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School will be ushering in a new graduating class of alumni on Wednesday, May 20 in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall at 4:00PM. Alex Gorsky, Chairman of the Board & CEO of Johnson & Johnson, is scheduled to be the speaker during the commencement ceremony.

According to his bio page on his company website, Alex Gorsky took on his role as Chairman, Board of Directors, in December 2012, and then was named Chief Executive Officer in April 2012. He began his career as a sales representative with Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc. in 1988. He rose through the corporate ladder and In 2001, Gorsky was appointed President of Janssen Pharmaceutical Inc. A few years later in 2003, he was named Company Group Chairman of the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceuticals business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Gorsky left Johnson & Johnson in 2004 to join the Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, before returning in 2008 as Company Group Chairman for Ethicon.

Aside from Johnson & Johnson, Gorsky was named the 2009 Mentor of the Year by the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, a testament to his dedication and advocacy toward diversity and inclusion. He also serves on the board of the Travis Manion Foundation.

Gorsky earned his Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and spent six years in the Army, where he reached the rank of Captain. He earned his MBA from The Wharton School in 1996.
