Kogod MBA Alumni Honored By School’s Dean

Entrance to the Kogod School of business home of Kogod Case Competition

Last month, the Kogod School of Business’ Dean Erran Carmel recognized philanthropic alumni for their community service at the school’s annual Dean’s Dinner. The 2015 Community Leadership Award was presented to Chris Donatelli, MBA ’91, which honors an alumnus exhibiting exemplary leadership skills to make a positive impact in the community.

Donatelli was given this award based off his tireless commitment to some of the DC Metro’s most neglected neighborhoods. As president of Donatelli Development, he has forged strong partnerships with the District and WMATA to spur transit-oriented developments in lower income areas.

Over the last 15 years, the company has delivered more than 2,500 housing units and 100,000 square feet of retail space. Retailers include sit-down and fast casual restaurants, banks, and other convenience establishments. Previously completed Donatelli Development projects in the DC Metro include Kenyon Square and Highland Park at the Columbia Heights Metro, Ellington and Harrison Square at the U Street Metro, and Park Place and Griffin at the GA Ave-Petworth Metro, as well as the garden style apartment communities Regatta Bay and Stone Point in Annapolis, Maryland. The company recently completed Park 7, a 376-unit project with street-level retail at the Minnesota Avenue Metro in Northeast, DC. In addition, three mixed-use buildings at the Stadium-Armory Metro, Fort Totten Metro, and Capitol Heights Metro station are in the planning stages.

Donatelli’s work received national recognition from the Urban Land Institute and the National Association of Home Builders, and his commitment to a historic city’s future is shared with Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, SPA/MPP ’00. In her recent District Address, Bowser said “the continued development of mixed-income developments is the key to progress of the city.”
