Bauer Alumni Launch On-Demand Gas Delivery Service
Wisam Nahhas and Nour Baki, alumni of the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, have launched a pilot program of their on-demand gas delivery service FuelMe on the University of Houston campus. The two entrepreneurs conceived their business in 2012, with support from Bauer College’s Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship.
To use FuelMe, potential customers download a mobile app (available for Android or iOS) and register for the program. The customer can then order fuel, indicating their location and how long they will be there. A member of the FuelMe team will fill the car. The customer is emailed a receipt after the car is filled.
“No one likes going to the gas station,” said Baki, “and with FuelMe, you’ll never have to waste time there again.”
Baki and Nahhas began their pilot program at the University of Houston on June 1. in their first week, they registered 400 users on campus using about 600 gallons of fuel. They conducted 40 fill ups in the first week.
As the pilot program at UH develops, Nahhas and Baki plan to bring larger corporate clients onboard to expand access to FuelMe. They hope to partner with airports, universities, and other organizations that have a concentrated segment of consumers. The founders are also looking for investments: they pitched FuelMe at UH’s special casting call with “Shark Tank”.
“The way we fill up gas hasn’t changed in 100 years, and I think it is about time we change the way we refuel. We think this is the best alternative to a gas station,” said Baki.
