Cass MBA Alumnus Shares Success Story
Alberto Lopez, Cass MBA alumnus, was recently welcomed back to the school as a speaker at the “Cass Entrepreneur Stories” event to share his story, according to a press release. Lopez is the founder and CEO of alva, a company that collects and analyzes media data to help predict trends for their clients. Lopez also has the distinction of being the first recipient of the Cass Entrepreneurship Fund, a £10 million venture fund that provides those who receive it with growth equity for their new companies.
Looking at his personal history, it’s hard to see a life outside of the business world for Lopez. His father started working very young and by 20 had opened his own business. Lopez worked there with his siblings during school holidays, something that he believes instilled his work ethic from a young age. After studying economics in his native Spain, Lopez came to Great Britain to study media management. He started working on his MBA after finding employment at a company that would sponsor his education.
In 2009, the company that he was working for had to let him go, faced with a dim economic future across the globe. In spite of this downturn, Lopez started alva a year later and credits much of his success to being forced to work in a difficult economic climate. “There are things I might have changed slightly, but then again, I don’t think I would want to do things differently. Each challenge has led us here. A lot of the good things are because of those challenges. Without them alva wouldn’t be where it is today,” he said in a press release.
