Coles Dean Named Among “Women Making A Mark”
Kathy Schwaig, the first female dean of the Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University, has been named among the “Women Making A Mark” by Atlanta Magazine for her leadership at Coles.
Atlanta Magazine observes that Coles has flourished under Schwaig’s leadership. The school has recently introduced two undergraduate programs, and launched a Women’s Leadership Institute. The Kennesaw State University part-time MBA program also climbed the MBA rankings, earning the 22nd spot in Bloomberg’s prestigious business school rankings of part-time MBA programs.
Kathy Schwaig has served as the dean of the Coles College of Business since July 2002. She is also a professor of Information Systems at Coles, and a Dinos Eminent Scholar, with research interests in Information Privacy, Knowledge Management, and Project Management. She is an alumna of the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.
In her spare time, Schwaig is working on earning her master’s degree in liberal arts from Johns Hopkins. She serves on the boards of Alliance for Children Everywhere, Process Logic, the Edge Connection, and Junior Achievement of Georgia. She is also raising a daughter, Emma Grace, with her husband Mike.
Kathy Schwaig was inspired by her father, a Baptist minister. She told Atlanta Magazine that he was a skilled orator behind the pulpit, but a quiet man in everyday life. Schwaig told the magazine that she is shy too, but she has to overcome her shyness to serve as a dean.
“When I speak, very often, I feel [my father]. He was strong in character and conviction, and passionate about what he did,” said Schwaig.
