On May 15, University of Houston C.T. Bauer College of Business celebrated the graduation of more than 900 students during a convocation ceremony. The event was the beginning of a new tradition at UH where they now host a university-wide commencement as well as a college convocation ceremony.
Bauer College Dean Latha Ramchand led the opening remarks of the ceremony giving words of inspiration to the students. “With your degree from Bauer, you have everything you need and more to succeed beyond your wildest dreams,” Ramchand said. “You are qualified, and you have everything you need to lead, but most importantly, with a degree from Bauer College and the University of Houston, you have the ability to change the world.”
The keynote speaker of the ceremony was UH System Chancellor and UH President Renu Khator. She encouraged students to continue to strive for their goals. “I don’t know of one person who is successful who hasn’t fallen,” Khator said. “Everybody will fall; that’s life. What separates people who are successful are those who get up and who have the courage to fall again. That’s what is going to make you wildly successful.”
Students at Bauer were also able to take part in the university-wide ceremony. At this event graduates had a special keynote speaker, actor Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey has appeared in more than 40 feature films that have collectively grossed over $1 Billion. He received a Critics Choice and Television Critics Association Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, as well as an Emmy Nomination for his role in the HBO series “True Detective.”
