USC’s Maxey Promoted to Assistant Vice Dean
Shirley Maxey, a professor of clinical accounting and management communication, has been named Assistant Vice Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs of the USC Marshall School of Business. Starting July 1, Maxey will work with department chairs to implement new initiatives in teaching and faculty development. She will report to Gareth James, vice dean for faculty and academic affairs. Along with James, Maxey will be handling hiring part-time faculty and the promotion of clinical faculty.
“I am honored to be given this opportunity to expand my role here at Marshall and Leventhal,” said Maxey. “It is an exciting time for us, and I look forward to playing a larger role in the team that builds the Marshall and Leventhal brands.”
Maxey joined USC as a specialist in accounting communication. She has over 25 years of experience as a communication consultant and trainer, and served for seven years as Chair and Director of the Center for Management Communication. Before joining USC, Professor Maxey worked for the California Legislature’s Auditor General and with Coopers & Lybrand. Professor Maxey is the recipient of the Instructor Excellence Award, the Faculty Excellence Award, Marshall’s Master Teacher Award, and the Dean’s Award for Community. She is a member of the Management Communication Association, the Association for Business Communication, and the American Accounting Association.
She also represents Marshall and Leventhal as the academic director of the AACSB Bridge Program, teaching business executives how to transition successfully into full or part-time teaching positions at accredited business schools.
