Carey Assistant Professor Receives Early-Career Award

Mario Macis, an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School, was recently named a recipient of the Catalyst Award at Johns Hopkins. The award provides up to $75,000 to JHU early-career faculty so they can pursue research or independent works. The Catalyst Awards program was established early this year of part of Johns Hopkins’ three-year, $15 million commitment to faculty-led research.

Macis is an Assistant Professor in the research track at Carey, an Associate Faculty Member at the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor. His research interests include health economics, human resources economics, and experimental economics. He joined the Carey Business School faculty in 2010, after serving as an assistant professor of business economics and public policy at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

“We have a wealth of talent among our faculty, whether they work in labs or studios, on city streets or surrounded by nature,” said Robert C. Lieberman, the provost of Johns Hopkins University. “This program is an important opportunity to nurture their talent and help them take the next steps in their careers.”

“The university’s leadership is excited to make a substantial investment in these scholars and scientists at a critical moment in their careers when start-up funds and external support can be challenging to secure,” said Ronald J. Daniels, the president of Johns Hopkins University. “This group possesses a remarkable depth of intellect, creativity, and passion, and it will be thrilling to see their ideas unleashed.”
