Cass Becomes Part of Digital Creativity Hub

Chancellor George Osborne announced in the Budget that Cass Business School will become part of a £18 million new Digital Creativity Hub, according to a press release from the school. The goal of the Hub is to lead a revolution through cutting-edge research in interactive media and digital games to benefit society. Cass professors will join forces with academics from Falmouth University, Goldsmiths, and the University of York to work as part of the Hub, which is being led by York.

Cass researchers will focus on making sure that the ideas that the Hub comes up with are financially sound and operationally scalable in an effort to reconcile social and business objectives in developing digital applications. The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and InnovateUK will be providing the five-year investment. Some of the projects the Hub is already working on include embedding advanced artificial intelligence in digital games, developing new ways to interact with television, improving engagement with digital archives and digital assets for heritage sites and archaeologists, and investigating sustainable and scalable business models with digital games to maximize financial gains and social impact.

Professor Leng Hi, leader of the project for Cass, was excited for Cass to continue to develop their digital business research. “The Digital Creativity Hub will further strengthen our position at the cutting edge of digital business research. It will offer an exciting new platform to build on our substantial existing work on new business models in the digital economy, and develop new collaborations with entrepreneurs, business leaders and world class research partners from different disciplines both in the UK and internationally,” he said in a press release.
