Rutgers Business Summer Camp Grows in Popularity

The Rutgers Business School- Newark and New Brunswick offers high school students the opportunity to experience college life, and business curriculum first hand. The program, which was started in 2014, has grown from 18 campers in attendance for the first year to 28 campers this year. The time frame for the program was also increased this year from five days to seven days.

The Business Summer Camp program at Rutgers was designed to provide high school juniors and seniors to learn business basics through experiential learning, business plan competitions and visits to major business locations near the campus. Campers also focus on the skills that are needed to succeed in life through team work, public speaking and interacting with other people.

This year, more than 50 volunteers helped with the Business Summer Camp this year. Volunteers for the program included professors, business executives and college mentors. Students that attended the program stayed on the Livingston Campus, to give them the experience of what residential life is like during college. Students also visited businesses in the area to learn more about the business world.

One business that students visited this summer was to Distinguished Programs insurance company. The students visited the company, located in New York City on July 15. Students learned more about how to start a business, important points to consider when starting a business and how to keep that business successful. Vice President and Regional Sales Manager Renée A. McFadden, CIC told Rutgers that “the students were very engaged as the underlying message is regardless of interest or passion, one can have a successful career in our industry.”

The Rutgers Summer Business Camp runs every July. More information on the Rutgers Business School and other top-ranked business school’s in the New York and surrounding areas can be found at metromba.com.
