UC Davis Continues Partnership with CalPERS

UC Davis Graduate School of Management will be extending their partnership with the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), according to a press release from the school. CalPERS is the nation’s largest public pension fund and a massive institutional investor. UC Davis will be offering their expertise to help CalPERS board members stay knowledgeable about the latest trends and developments in pension fund management, governance, and benefits administration.

The school recently finished a two-year Pension Fundamentals Program that provided finance, portfolio management, and corporate governance training for around 300 employees in the CalPERS investment office. Based upon the success of that program, as well as a new California law that requires 24 hours of board education programs over two years, CalPERS made the decision to continue their partnership. Five sessions will be held during regular public board meetings that will tackle different topics related pension funds. These sessions will be recorded and uploaded to CalPERS’ YouTube page for public record.

Anne Stausboll, Chief Executive Officer of CalPERS, was optimistic that the program would help lead the group to continued success. “Building on the success of the Pension Fundamentals Program, we’re partnering with the UC Davis Graduate School of Management’s on a new educational program for the CalPERS Board of Administration. We have worked closely with the faculty to develop a five-part program designed to provide CalPERS’ board members with cutting-edge knowledge and trends in our core strategic areas of retirement planning, asset management, financial compliance and risk, pension fund governance and health care delivery. We look forward to the sessions,” she said in a press release.
