LBS Sloan Fellows Visit California
54 Sloan Fellows from London Business School recently returned from a week-long journey to California known as ‘SloanFEST,’ according to a press release from the school. The Sloan Fellows program is a master’s degree in general management and leadership originally supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation at LBS, MIT Sloan School of Management, and Stanford Graduate School of Business. It is designed for people who have demonstrated success either as entrepreneurs or within organizations. LBS requires at least 12 years experience for its Sloan fellows, although the average is 16 years.
SloanFEST gave fellows an opportunity to learn about leadership issues facing growing enterprises and try to effectively apply the theories they learned in the classroom to address them. Students met with business leaders, participated in workshops, and attended networking events as part of the journey. The students created their own itinerary and visits included everything from fresh startups to global tech giants.
Paul Hanegraaf, a Sloan fellow who participated in SloanFEST, felt inspired by the rapidly developing tech economy in Silicon Valley. “Seeing the growth of start-up organisations, from their challenging beginnings all the way through to established organisations such as Square, Twitter and Google X was an eye-opening experience. These companies are populated with incredibly intelligent people who are attracted to the entrepreneurial vibe of San Francisco and Silicon Valley. It was fantastic to meet and interact with a community of people so passionate about what they are doing and genuinely trying to make a difference through business. San Francisco and the Valley are a hotbed of business model innovation,” he said in a press release.
