Incoming C.T. Bauer Students Connect with Successful MBA Alumni
Recent full-time MBA candidates at the C.T. Bauer College of Business of the University of Houston were given the chance to meet one-on-one with successful Bauer alumni. The Alumni Roundtable event, which was held during orientation for the program in August, included eleven Bauer MBA alumni who have achieved success in their chosen field.
At each roundtable session, students were given the chance to meet their fellow MBA candidates as well as interact with the visiting alumni. While the alumni initially introduced themselves to the entire group of students, they were later able to attend a breakout session with an alumnus that matched each candidate’s concentrations.
The list of speakers was diverse, including Bauer alumni that graduated as long as twenty-five years ago to as recently as 2012. The background of each speaker was diverse as well, ranging from CEO’s, vice presidents and account managers for major organizations such as The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, TopSpot Internet Marketing, and Intertek.
Each Bauer MBA alumni offered person experiences, tips for career growth and guidance for new students on getting the most from their MBA program, gaining new connections and achieving personal goals.
“If you can get real experience from real companies, definitely take that opportunity. Don’t make [your course selection] so robotic that you don’t have fun,” BakerCorp Vice President-General Manager Eric John said.
The alumni also emphasized the importance of out-of-class experiences for their future careers, such as networking outside of the classroom and preparing for life after Bauer. “Start depositing in your entrepreneurial bank,” Sceptre Hospitality Resources CEO Rodrigo Jimenez said. “Network and build the financial ability to walk away and do what you want to do.”
