On Friday, September 18th, the Terry College of Business at The University of Georgia celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Amos Hall and beginning of Phase II of the Business Learning Community.
Taking place on the lawn of Correll Hall, which houses Terry’s graduate programs and was funded entirely by private donations, the event was open to the public. Amos Hall, named for alumnus Daniel P. Amos, is at the center of Phase II, which aims to accommodate the undergraduate programs at Terry. The new building’s namesake, chairman and CEO of Aflac, was present to speak at the event, in addition to Terry College Dean Benjamin C. Ayers, UGA President Jere W. Morehead, chairman emeritus of Georgia-Pacific Pete Correll, and Terry College students Carmen Arias and Johnelle Simpson.
Of the Business Learning Community, UGA President Morehead said: “The new Business Learning Community is a great example of the strong public-private partnerships that the University of Georgia relies on to create the kind of world-class learning environment that a major research institution requires.”
Classes have already begun at the 74,000-square-foot Correll Hall, which includes cutting edge classrooms, a business innovation lab and team project rooms. Amos Hall and Phase II of the Business Learning Community will ultimately be 140,000 square feet and will include two auditoriums, classrooms, a music business recording lab, undergraduate commons and a trading room.
Before the ceremony, Pete Correll and Dan Amos also served as guest speakers at the Mason Public Leadership Lecture, part of the Institute for Leadership Advancement Speaker Series. The series, which features important business leaders who have served their communities in a significant way, is supported by a Terry College of Business alumnus, lawyer Keith Mason.
