A professor of supply chain strategy at Cranfield University School of Management is the new chairman of the UK’s leading professional organization on logistics and transportation, according to a press release from the school.

Richard Wilding was named chairman of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK. He succeeds Neil Ashworth in the role.

With 18,000 members, CILT (UK) falls under CILT International. It provides service, benefits and information to help people working in transportation, logistics and supply chain boost their careers.

A member of the Institute since 1992, Wilding previously served as a board member and in other leadership roles.

“Transport and logistics play a critical role in the UK and global economy, and this role will enable the board and me the opportunity to impact and influence the sector from the classroom to the boardroom,” Wilding says.

Wilding was appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2013 to recognize his contributions to business. According to his Cranfield biography, his other honors include recognitions from the European Supply Chain Distinction Awards and being named the first-ever full professor and chair of supply chain risk management in the world. He also has worked with companies including Astra Zeneca, Exxon Mobile, IBM and Oracle.

The supply chain management offerings at Cranfield are well-regarded. A recent report from SCM World named Cranfield the leading non-U.S. institution in supply chain excellence. The school offers a one-year, full-time master’s program in logistics and supply chain management. And MBA students at Cranfield can take an elective module called Driving Value Through the Supply Chain.
