Merage School Professor to Address Silicon Valley’s Influence on Drug Development

Dr. Vijay Gurbaxani, founding director of the Center for Digital Transformation (CDT) at the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine, is a scheduled keynote panelist at CNS Summit 2015, an annual forum focused on the most pressing issues in drug development.

CNS Summit 2015 will take place October 8-11 in Boca Raton, FL, and is expected to draw participants from biotech companies, research sites and service companies throughout the pharmaceutical industry.

Gurbaxani described the CDT he leads in a press release as “focused on helping companies across a wide variety of industries transform their businesses in the light of the approaching digital ‘tsunami,’” adding that the CDT is pleased to partner with CNS Summit to share insights with the pharmaceutical industry.

Gurbaxani served as Merage’s senior associate dean from 2006 to 2008 and associate dean of the MBA program from 2004 until 2006 and from 1995 to 1999. His teaching and programming has focused on the role of information technology in business. As a result of Gurbaxani’s leadership, the school has been recognized as a center for excellence and innovation for the study of IT’s role in business.

Gurbaxani has raised more than$5 million during his career for his research program, which is also supported by funds from the National Science Foundation and from donors across the information technology industry. He is considered an expert in outsourcing and won the 2002 Outsourcing World Achievement Award, presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers at the fourth annual Outsourcing World Summit Conference & Exposition.
