Quinlan MBA Honored with Diversity MBA’s Graduate Student Leadership Award
Travis Cornejo, a student reporter at the Loyola University Chicago, has reported that Diversity MBA Magazine has named Quinlan School of Business MBA Marvin Mathelier the recipient of the publication’s Graduate Student Leadership Award.
A veteran of the War in Afghanistan, Mathelier became a recruiter in Chicago upon returning home. He says that it was during his time as a recruiter that he decided to pursue his master’s degree. He decided to apply for business school and found that Quinlan was the right fit for him.
“Loyola fit my values,” Mathelier told Cornejo. “The biggest thing about the military is we need ethical leaders. You can be proficient as a leader, but once you compromise your values and once your integrity is being questioned, that can hurt you for the rest of your career. I love how Loyola focuses on being an ethical leader. That’s why I decided on Quinlan.”
In a letter to the selection committee Quinlan Assistant Dean Katherine Acles says that,
“Marvin has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and truly epitomizes the leadership characteristics [this] award seeks to recognize,” said,. “We believe he is worthy of this recognition.”
Mathelier’s profile will be published in Diversity MBA’s “Fall Leadership” issue. He is set to graduate this November after three years of classes and full-time employment.
