Texas Apartment Association Names New Head for the Residential Property Management Program at UNT College of Business
The University of North Texas College of Business’ Professor of Real Estate, Dr. John Baen, has recently been named as the Texas Apartment Association Professor in Residential Property Management (PRM).
Effective this fall, Dr. Baen will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the college’s RPM program, including advising students and developing new curriculums. Well-known as an authority of issues of real estate and property management, Dr. Baen background goes beyond academic experience: he is a State of Texas Certified Appraiser with several years experience in multifamily land and property, real estate brokerage, and has served as an expert witness for both state and federal cases covering apartment issues.
The PRM program at UNT is one of only a few university programs offering a specialization in the field. Established ten years ago thanks to an endowed gift from the Texas Apartment Associan (TAA) Educational Foundation, the UNT program gives students an opportunity to receive a BBA in Real Estate with a concentration in RPM.
The program’s multi-faceted curriculum has been developed through the collaborative work of the TAA and the Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate, and Law. In addition to instruction in the classroom, the College of Business offers outreach programs to help students gain experience in real-life situations.
Dr. Baen’s plans to expand the RPM program and invite more students to consider a career within the field. Since beginning ten years ago, the apartment industry has received several graduates from the program. UNT graduates can be found in a number of different fields today, including apartment brokerage, development, investments, finance and multifamily investment analysis.
According to Dr. Baen, “UNT graduates from the real estate program and other programs at UNT can be found in all aspects of the multifamily industry. My job as the new TAA Professor in Residential Property Management is to build on that record of success and to attract even more UNT students to this wonderful industry.”
