Cal State Long Beach Students Aim High for Boeing Competition

A group of 11 California State University, Long Beach students participated last month in the Boeing Business Case Study Competition, advancing to the final round.

The group, who gave themselves the name “Team Enigma,” will have the chance to tour the corporation’s satellite facilities and network with high-level executives to explore job options. Each team member is enrolled in CSULB’s Accelerated MBA program.

The team got the opportunity to present their case to CFOs at the Boeing site in El Segundo.

The Business Case Study Competition challenged team members to show their skills in global strategy, finance, and market research in an aerospace industry inspired case. Teams had two and a half weeks to work on the study, which resulted in a presentation. Team Enigma was faced with the problem of a creating a fleet replacement plan for retiring satellites.

As the second largest employer in Long Beach, Boeing boasts a large number of employees who are CSULB alumni. The competition is part of its Business Career Foundation Program, which fosters education and mentorship for roles in engineering, HR and IT. The program is open to all graduates with bachelor’s degrees in these areas, though other fields of study are considered.

Those enrolled are considered full-time employees of Boeing and receive benefits and salary. Besides the Southern California location Boeing offers the program in Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and St. Louis.
