Rutgers Honors Local Businesses and Awards Entrepreneurship
Rutgers Business School held its second annual awards ceremony on November 18, 2015 in commemoration of Global Entrepreneurship Week. The Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CUEED) and Rutgers’ programs for urban entrepreneurship and economic development-work to promote the development of sustainable business in New Jersey, New York and other area cities.
In a press release, Rutgers Business School Dean Lei Lei said, “Rutgers Business School is very proud to be part of this celebration and we congratulate all of the award winners for your drive and your achievement”.
Honorees included Maria del Mar Lopez and Maria Yglesias, founders of affordable housing company M&M Development; Thomas Malave, principal and president of Bartlett Dairy, which boasts a 105,000 square foot facility in Newark’s south ward which employs residents of the area; Emily Tantuccio, a Rutgers Student who formed her own photography and promotions business; and Alex Zaltsman, founder and CEO of InnoviMobile, which develops mobile applications.
Also honored was Brooklyn-based online craft store Etsy, which recently partnered with Rutgers to offer access to local craftspeople facility space at the University. Those who completed the Etsy Craft Entrepreneurship Workshop received a certificate of acknowledgement and increased promotion of their products with the help of the network provided by the school.
Lyneir Richardson, executive director of CUEED, remarked, “At CUEED, we focus everyday on connecting entrepreneurship and urban economic development”.
