What prompted you to return to school to pursue your master’s degree?
“I have always had a need to challenge myself and grow, but after a few years in the workforce, I felt like my career was becoming stagnant. At that point, I knew it was time to move forward by earning a master’s degree.”
What factor(s) did you consider when choosing a master’s program, and why did you choose UIC Liautaud for your graduate study?
“I attended UIC for a portion of my undergraduate studies and always appreciated the value and convenience that UIC had to offer. When comparing prices with the other programs in the area, UIC Liautaud was very competitive, yet still provided a high-quality education. It is a well-respected program that I could be proud to put on my resume.”
Shilpa Mohanty – Full Time MBA – Concentration(s): Marketing and MIS
Which class/professor has been your favorite thus far and why?
“Attending the IPD class has introduced me to the innovation center, open, creative atmosphere of classes and the kind of top-tier professors offered by UIC from the school of engineering, design and business. In addition, it taught me that the interdisciplinary team experience, as used in IPD to link between students from different backgrounds, could help me truly leverage differences in multicultural approaches. Besides that Professor Spanjol is my favorite professor. “She is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. At the same time, she makes me passionate about a future in marketing. A professor who allows you to learn and have fun simultaneously is very rare.”
What is your favorite aspect of the UIC campus and why?
“My favorite aspect of the UIC campus is the energy of the students. I love sitting in the second floor of the Douglas hall and observing everyone. Watching the various activities going around such as people coming for classes, talking with their friends, doing assignments, holding meetings etc. gives me a sense of joy and happiness. Also organizing the different activities for GMARK is my favorite job. We are a passionate group of individuals at GMARK this year and I love working with the board.”
Sade L. Stokes – Part Time MBA – Concentration(s): Marketing
What has been the most unexpected gain the program has given you?
“The most unexpected gain the program has given to me is a thorough understanding of the material presented to me in the classroom. I didn’t expect to understand the material as clearly as I do, especially in subjects that I have feared in the past such as statistics and accounting.”
What advice would you provide to incoming UIC Liautaud students?
I would recommend that incoming Liautaud students carefully select their concentration so that they can make the most out of their education. There appears to be great instructors in almost every concentration Liautaud has to offer, but if students can truly appreciate what they’re learning they are bound to exceed their own expectations.
