D’Amore-McKim Dean Hugh Courtney to Lead International Group

Dean Hugh Courtney  of the D’Amore-McKim School of Business-Northeastern University is the new president of the International Partnership of Business Schools. He was elected to lead the group of business institutions, whose aim is to elevate business education, according to a press release from the school. Courtney will serve a two-year term.

“It is a great honor and pleasure to be elected president of IPBS,” Courtney said in the press release. “Through this unique partnership of business schools on three continents, we offer our undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to study international business in their non-native languages and to complete co-op work assignments with global business leaders.”

Courtney’s leadership comes after decades of partnership between Northeastern and the international consortium. In fact, in 1986 the university became the first U.S. school to become involved with the group, then known as the European Partnership of Business Schools.

Today, the group’s member institutions come from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil and the United States. Courtney’s goals include adding more schools to IPBS from areas including Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

“The global experiential learning opportunities that IPBS enables are perfectly aligned with D’Amore-McKim’s vision to be a leader in international business education, research and outreach,” Courtney said.

An example of D’Amore-McKim’s emphasis on international education is the International Field Study, part of the Full-Time MBA Program. Between their first and second years in the program, MBA students spend 10 days on an international trip hearing guest speakers, meeting with regional officials and visiting companies.
